About Rippling
Rippling gives businesses one place to run HR, IT, and Finance. It brings together all of the workforce systems that are normally scattered across a company, like payroll, expenses, benefits, and computers. For the first time ever, you can manage and automate every part of the employee lifecycle in a single system. Take onboarding, for example. With Rippling, you can hire a new employee anywhere in the world and set up their payroll, corporate card, computer, benefits, and even third-party apps like Slack and Microsoft 365—all within 90 seconds. Based in San Francisco, CA, Rippling has raised $1.4B+ from the world’s top investors—including Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, Sequoia, Greenoaks, and Bedrock—and was named one of America's best startup employers by Forbes. We prioritize candidate safety. Please be aware that all official communication will only be sent from @Rippling.com addresses.
About The Role
Spend is one of the most complex systems inside a company, and one of the most visible. Employees need to book travel, pay vendors, and get reimbursed without friction. Finance teams need control, compliance, and clean books without becoming the “no” department. Most solutions make you choose: powerful but painful, or simple but limited. Rippling is building a Spend Management Platform that refuses that tradeoff. Instead of stitching together corporate cards, bill pay, expenses, procurement, travel, and global spend across multiple tools, we’re designing it as one connected experience. It’s natively linked to Rippling’s HR and payroll system, so it already knows your org, roles, and policies. Policies apply automatically, approvals route instantly, and reconciliation and reporting stay accurate because every transaction is tied to real people, departments, and budgets. For admins, it’s real-time control without the manual chase. For employees, it just works. As Product Design Lead for Finance, you’ll set the vision for Rippling’s Spend platform and drive it from concept to shipped reality. You’ll lead design for surfaces like cards, expenses, bill pay, procurement, travel, and reporting, creating experiences that feel effortless for employees and powerful enough for global finance teams. You’ll set a high bar for craft and usability, build deep trust with Product and Engineering through strong execution, and define patterns that scale from a one-person startup to a 10,000-person company. If you’re ready to redesign how money moves through modern companies, let’s talk.
What You Will Do
- Help define the long-term vision for Rippling’s Spend Management Platform, bringing together products like Cards, Travel, Expenses, and Bill Pay into a cohesive hub for global finance.
- Partner with Research to deeply understand complex finance workflows, then translate that complexity into simple, cross-product experiences that set Rippling apart.
- Design for both employees and finance leaders, delivering flows that feel effortless day to day while providing the control, compliance, and visibility required at scale.
- Champion a consumer-grade quality bar, elevating craft across the Finance Suite and mentoring designers in systems thinking, interaction design, and visual polish.
- Collaborate tightly with Product and Engineering to make high-velocity decisions, ship with urgency, and advocate relentlessly for customers at every step.
What You Will Need
- 7-8+ years of end-to-end product design experience shipping complex, high-impact products from concept to launch, then iterating based on what you learn.
- A portfolio that shows you can turn messy, ambiguous problems into simple, intuitive workflows, especially in complex domains.
- Strong interaction and visual design craft, with the ability to produce polished work across edge cases and states, and communicate clear, build-ready specs.
- Relentless customer focus, backed by a habit of digging into real behavior, identifying pain points, and designing solutions that solve meaningful problems.
- Excellent communication and storytelling, from crisp async write-ups to persuasive presentations that drive alignment and decisions.
- A track record of working effectively with Product and Engineering, moving quickly while holding a high quality bar.
- Comfort operating in fast-moving environments, juggling multiple work-streams, unblocking dependencies, and owning timelines with minimal oversight.

Product Design Lead Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a product design lead in New York?
Product design is not a licensed profession in New York, so there is no state board or exam required to work in the role. The typical path starts with a degree in interaction design, product design, or human-computer interaction, followed by several years as an individual contributor on a product team. New York employers generally expect a strong portfolio of shipped digital work, demonstrated mentorship of other designers, and experience working closely with product and engineering counterparts before moving into a lead position.
How much do product design leads make in New York?
Product design leads in New York earn a median of about $89,640 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,160 for the lowest 10% to over $160,380 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire product design leads in New York?
Employers hiring product design leads in New York right now include Rippling, Meta, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of fintech firms, enterprise software companies, and media organizations means design lead roles here tend to involve complex, multi-platform product ecosystems.
Which New York cities have the most product design lead jobs?
New York account for the largest share of product design lead openings in New York. The concentration reflects New York City's role as a global technology and finance hub, where large employers in fintech, media, and consumer software maintain significant in-house design organizations, while Brooklyn attracts growing startups and mid-size product companies.
Are there remote product design lead jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 12% of product design lead openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work, including critique sessions, stakeholder reviews, and async design collaboration, translates well to distributed settings. Strategic and systems-level design leadership work tends to be the most remote-friendly, while roles requiring close collaboration with physical product or hardware teams usually require in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a product design lead in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing an individual contributor product design role first and building a record of leading projects or mentoring peers before applying to formal lead positions. Large New York employers in fintech and media, including companies headquartered in Midtown and the Flatiron District, regularly hire associate or mid-level product designers where you can develop leadership skills over time. Completing a recognized product design bootcamp or earning a master's in HCI from a New York institution strengthens candidacy, and a portfolio that shows design decision-making at the system level, not just visual craft, is what moves candidates into lead consideration.
Where can I find and apply to product design lead jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to product design lead jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
