Product Security Engineer Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a product security engineer in Hawaii?
Most Hawaii employers require a bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or software engineering as the starting point. Hawaii does not issue a state-specific license for product security engineers, so the path centers on earning industry certifications such as CISSP or CompTIA Security+, building hands-on experience with secure development lifecycle practices, and obtaining a federal security clearance if you intend to pursue the defense and government work that dominates the Hawaii market.
Which companies hire product security engineers in Hawaii?
Companies currently hiring product security engineers in Hawaii include Booz Allen Hamilton, Bank of Hawaii, and SOSi, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's defense contractor ecosystem and federal civilian agencies anchored near Honolulu and Pearl Harbor consistently drive the largest share of openings in this role.
Which Hawaii cities have the most product security engineer jobs?
Honolulu, Ford Island, and Kauai account for the most product security engineer openings in Hawaii. Honolulu dominates because it is home to the state's major defense contractors, federal agencies, and the University of Hawaii System, while Kapolei's growth as a secondary business hub and the federal installations concentrated on Oahu's west side explain activity in other parts of the island.
Are there remote product security engineer jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, and more than most fields, since product security work is largely analytical and code-focused rather than requiring physical presence. About 0% of product security engineer openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, though roles tied to classified defense programs typically require on-site work at cleared facilities. Cloud security, application security review, and security architecture positions are the most likely to offer remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a product security engineer in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate security engineer role at one of Hawaii's defense contractors or at the University of Hawaii's cybersecurity programs, which recruit new graduates directly. Booz Allen Hamilton and Leidos both run associate and early-career programs that accept candidates from computer science and IT degree programs without prior professional security experience. Completing a CompTIA Security+ certification and building a portfolio through capture-the-flag competitions or open-source security tooling significantly strengthens applications. Lateral moves from software development, IT administration, or network operations at Hawaii employers are also a well-traveled route in.
