Security Engineering Manager Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security engineering manager in Hawaii?
The typical path in Hawaii starts with a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, or information systems, followed by several years of hands-on security engineering work. Hawaii has no state-issued license specific to security engineering managers, but industry certifications such as CISSP or CISM carry significant weight with local employers, particularly defense contractors and federal agencies. A security clearance, even at the Secret level, substantially expands your options in the Hawaii market.
How much do security engineering managers make in Hawaii?
Security engineering managers in Hawaii earn a median of about $120,100 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $65,950 for the lowest 10% to over $161,700 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security engineering managers in Hawaii?
Hawaii security engineering manager roles are posted by Bank of Hawaii, Booz Allen Hamilton, and SOSi and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Defense and federal contractors dominate hiring in Hawaii, though healthcare networks and the University of Hawaii system also maintain active security engineering teams.
Which Hawaii cities have the most security engineering manager jobs?
Honolulu, Ford Island, and Kauai account for the most security engineering manager openings in Hawaii. Honolulu drives the majority of postings given its concentration of federal agencies, defense contractors, and large private employers, while Pearl City and Kapolei benefit from proximity to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and the growing technology corridor developing along the Oahu west side.
Are there remote security engineering manager jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely analytical roles because security engineering managers in Hawaii frequently oversee on-site infrastructure tied to defense and federal contracts. About 0% of security engineering manager openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to cluster around cloud security governance and policy-focused responsibilities rather than hands-on network or systems work.
How can I get hired as a security engineering manager in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a senior security engineer or team lead role first, then transitioning into management. In Hawaii, large defense contractors such as Booz Allen Hamilton and Leidos regularly bring on associate engineers and security analysts, and the University of Hawaii system offers technology roles that can develop into leadership positions over time. Earning a CISSP or CompTIA Security+ while building team leadership experience, even informally, signals readiness to move into a management track.
Where can I find and apply to security engineering manager jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to security engineering manager jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current Hawaii openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and target location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
