Security Architect Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security architect in Hawaii?
Most Hawaii employers expect a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, or information systems paired with hands-on security engineering experience before moving into architecture roles. Hawaii has no state-issued license specific to security architects, but industry certifications such as the CISSP are effectively required by the defense contractors and government agencies that dominate local hiring. Starting in a security analyst or systems administrator role at a Hawaii-based defense contractor or financial institution is the most direct path.
How much do security architects make in Hawaii?
Security architects in Hawaii earn a median of about $126,250 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $76,390 for the lowest 10% to over $172,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security architects in Hawaii?
Hawaii security architect roles are posted by Bank of Hawaii, Booz Allen Hamilton, and SOSi and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Defense contractors and federal agency support firms anchored around Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam account for a significant share of Hawaii's ongoing security architect demand.
Which Hawaii cities have the most security architect jobs?
Honolulu, Ford Island, and Kauai lead Hawaii for security architect openings. Honolulu dominates because it concentrates the state's largest federal agencies, defense contractor offices, and financial institutions, while proximity to Pearl Harbor and other military installations drives sustained demand for cleared security architecture talent across the greater Oahu area.
Are there remote security architect jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, and more than many technical roles, since security architecture is primarily a design and advisory function rather than hands-on physical work. About 0% of security architect openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, though cleared positions tied to defense or government clients frequently require on-site presence. Cloud security architecture and policy-focused roles tend to carry the most remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a security architect in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a security analyst or IT systems administrator role at a Honolulu-based defense contractor or a Hawaii state government agency, then building toward architecture responsibilities over time. Large employers such as Booz Allen Hamilton and Leidos hire entry-level cybersecurity analysts in Hawaii and promote internally. Earning a CompTIA Security+ or working toward a CISSP associate credential strengthens early applications considerably, and a portfolio of network or cloud security design work closes the gap further.
Where can I find and apply to security architect jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to security architect jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current Hawaii openings. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
