Overview
Availability:
- Minimum 1:50-5:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, 12:20-5:30 PM Fridays
- 12:30-1:30 PM Recess/Lunch Shifts (11:45-12)
- Expect to be asked to work camps (a week of either 8 AM-12:30 PM or 12:30-5 PM shifts) during our Winter, February, Spring and Summer breaks
Join our vibrant afterschool program as a Teaching Assistant and play a vital role in creating a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to support young learners through structured activities, educational support, and positive mentorship. As a key team member, you will help foster growth, confidence, and joy in children while ensuring their safety and well-being.
Duties
- Assist lead teachers in implementing curriculum activities that promote learning and development for children of various ages.
- Manage classroom behavior through effective behavior management techniques and positive reinforcement strategies.
- Support children with their daily routines, including snack time, bathroom breaks, and transitions between activities.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed at all times, including administering basic first aid when necessary and operating AED devices in emergencies.
- Engage children in recreational activities such as sports, arts and crafts, theater, or other creative projects to enhance their social and emotional skills.
- Maintain a clean, organized classroom environment conducive to learning and play.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding children's progress and any concerns.
Skills
- Strong classroom management skills with the ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Knowledge of first aid procedures, CPR certification, AED operation, and first aid protocols.
- Experience working with children in educational or childcare settings, including daycare or camp experience.
- Background in special education or childhood development is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to work effectively with children of different ages and backgrounds.
- Skills in tutoring or teaching young children to support their academic growth.
- Experience in youth programs teaching, babysitting, sports coaching, theater arts or Christian counseling is a plus.
