Assistant Branch Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a assistant branch manager in California?
Most California employers require a bachelor's degree in business or finance combined with at least one to two years of experience in a bank or credit union. If the role involves mortgage or consumer lending, California-regulated institutions require NMLS registration through the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System, administered in California by the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation. Candidates typically progress from teller, personal banker, or loan officer roles before stepping into an assistant branch manager position.
How much do assistant branch managers make in California?
Assistant branch managers in California earn a median of about $124,390 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,370 for the lowest 10% to over $293,810 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire assistant branch managers in California?
Employers hiring assistant branch managers in California right now include GameStop, Finish Line, and Hot Topic, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's density of regional credit unions, community banks, and major national bank branches makes it one of the most consistently active states for this role year-round.
Which California cities have the most assistant branch manager jobs?
San Diego, Sacramento, and Riverside have the most assistant branch manager openings in California. Los Angeles drives the largest share of listings given its size and concentration of retail banking networks, while San Francisco and San Diego reflect the strong presence of both national banks and large regional credit unions that anchor the Bay Area and Southern California markets.
Are there remote assistant branch manager jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Assistant branch manager work is fundamentally on-site because the role involves supervising staff, serving customers in person, and managing daily branch operations. About 0% of assistant branch manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those exceptions tend to involve back-office operations oversight or training coordination rather than full branch leadership.
How can I get hired as a assistant branch manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a personal banker or senior teller role at a large California institution and demonstrating team leadership within that position. Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and Golden 1 Credit Union all run internal development programs in California that accelerate high-performing retail staff into supervisory tracks. Obtaining your NMLS registration early signals readiness for a lending-focused branch role and gives candidates without a management title a concrete credential that California hiring managers recognize.
Where can I find and apply to assistant branch manager jobs in California?
You can find and apply to assistant branch manager jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Find the roles that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to each employer through the listing.
