Personal Assistant Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a personal assistant in California?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a personal assistant in California, but employers consistently hire candidates with an associate or bachelor's degree in business administration, communications, or a related field. Completing a certified administrative professional program through a California community college strengthens your candidacy. Building experience through executive assistant or office coordinator roles at California companies is the most direct path to landing a personal assistant position.
Which companies hire personal assistants in California?
Companies currently hiring personal assistants in California include Maxim Healthcare, Savant Senior Living, and JEM Wellness Brands, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's concentration of entertainment studios, technology firms, and venture-backed startups means demand for personal assistants remains active across multiple sectors year-round.
Which California cities have the most personal assistant jobs?
The cities with the most personal assistant openings in California are Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and San Francisco. Los Angeles dominates because of its entertainment industry and high-net-worth population, while San Francisco and San Jose are driven by the dense cluster of technology companies and venture capital firms that rely heavily on personal and executive assistants.
Are there remote personal assistant jobs in California?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since personal assistants often handle physical tasks like errands, in-person scheduling, and on-site coordination. About 10% of personal assistant openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with remote work most available for roles focused on calendar management, correspondence, and vendor coordination rather than hands-on daily support.
How can I get hired as a personal assistant in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing an administrative coordinator or receptionist role at a California-based company, then moving laterally into a personal assistant position once you have demonstrated reliability and discretion. Large California employers in entertainment and tech, such as production studios and Silicon Valley firms, regularly post junior executive assistant openings that welcome candidates without direct personal assistant experience. Completing an administrative professional certification through a California community college and building a portfolio of scheduling, travel coordination, and correspondence samples gives applicants a concrete edge.
