Personal Assistant Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a personal assistant in New York?
Personal assistants in New York do not require a state-issued license or certification, so the path centers on building relevant experience and credentials. Most employers look for a bachelor's degree and prior administrative or executive support experience. Completing a professional certification through organizations like the American Society of Administrative Professionals can strengthen a candidacy. Networking through New York's dense professional communities in finance, media, and entertainment is often how candidates land their first roles.
Which companies hire personal assistants in New York?
Companies currently hiring personal assistants in New York include Right At Home, Regency HCS, and Visiting Nurses Home Care, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New York's concentration of financial institutions, media companies, luxury brands, and high-net-worth private households makes it one of the deepest markets in the country for personal assistant roles at every level.
Which New York cities have the most personal assistant jobs?
The cities with the most personal assistant openings in New York are New York, Brooklyn, and Buffalo. This distribution reflects New York City's dominance as a global hub for finance, entertainment, and fashion, which drives the highest volume, while White Plains and Long Island draw demand from corporate headquarters and affluent private households concentrated in the Hudson Valley and Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Are there remote personal assistant jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're less common, since personal assistant work is inherently tied to proximity and hands-on support. About 9% of personal assistant openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting a small but real share of the market. The tasks most likely to shift remote include calendar management, travel booking, correspondence, and vendor coordination for clients who do not require daily in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a personal assistant in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting in a receptionist, office coordinator, or administrative assistant role at a large New York firm in finance, law, or media, then moving into a personal assistant position internally. Major New York employers like law firms, investment banks, and talent agencies regularly hire entry-level administrative staff and promote from within. A certification from the American Society of Administrative Professionals and demonstrated proficiency with scheduling and communication tools will give candidates a clear edge over others without direct experience.
Where can I find and apply to personal assistant jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to personal assistant jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across New York City, White Plains, Long Island, and other markets throughout the state. Search the listings, find the roles that fit your background and preferred work setting, and apply directly to the ones that match.
