Personal Assistant Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a personal assistant in New York?
Most personal assistant roles in New York require a high school diploma at minimum, though many employers prefer a bachelor's degree in business administration, communications, or a related field. New York does not require a state license to work as a personal assistant, but obtaining a New York State Notary Public commission through the Department of State strengthens applications significantly, particularly for legal, financial, and executive household roles. Prior administrative or coordinator experience is the most consistent hiring requirement.
How much do personal assistants make in New York?
Personal assistants in New York earn a median of about $80,640 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,420 for the lowest 10% to over $122,440 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire personal assistants in New York?
Employers hiring personal assistants in New York right now include Amazon, Morgan Stanley, and Bank of America, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of financial institutions, media conglomerates, law firms, and high-net-worth private households means demand is consistent and spread across multiple industries.
Which New York cities have the most personal assistant jobs?
The cities with the most personal assistant openings in New York are New York, Bronx, and Brooklyn. New York City dominates due to its density of corporate headquarters, financial firms, entertainment companies, and private households requiring dedicated support, while suburban hubs like White Plains and Long Island reflect the executive populations commuting from or based in Westchester and Nassau counties.
Are there remote personal assistant jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since personal assistant work often requires physical presence for household management, in-person scheduling, and hands-on support. About 15% of personal assistant openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting selective availability. Virtual personal assistant roles supporting executives with travel logistics and digital communications are the most likely to allow remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a personal assistant in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as an administrative coordinator or receptionist at a law firm, financial services company, or large corporate office in New York City, then moving into a personal assistant role once you have demonstrated scheduling and communication skills. Staffing agencies specializing in private household and executive placement, such as those concentrated in Midtown Manhattan, regularly place candidates with limited experience in entry-level personal assistant positions. Earning a New York State Notary Public commission before applying gives candidates a concrete, low-barrier credential that many employers list as a plus.
Where can I find and apply to personal assistant jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to personal assistant jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, find roles that fit your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that match.
