Job Summary
We are looking for a caring and dedicated Personal Care Assistant to provide vital support to individuals in a variety of care settings, such as personal care homes, assisted living facilities, and group homes. The ideal candidate will be committed to improving the quality of life for seniors and individuals with disabilities. This position requires a proactive and compassionate approach to assisting clients with daily activities while promoting their independence and dignity.
Responsibilities
- Offer direct assistance to clients with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Help residents with mobility and transportation needs, including driving them to appointments or social events.
- Ensure a clean and safe environment for clients by performing light housekeeping tasks.
- Engage clients in meaningful conversations and activities to encourage social interaction and mental engagement.
- Monitor and document any changes in clients' physical or emotional health, and report concerns to the appropriate staff members.
- Assist individuals with memory care needs using specialized methods to support cognitive function.
- Work closely with healthcare professionals to ensure that comprehensive care plans are followed.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in direct care or senior care is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of operations in personal care homes and best practices in assisted living settings.
- Ability to drive safely and responsibly to meet client transportation needs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for helping others.
- Skilled in maintaining cleanliness and organization within clients' living spaces.
- Familiarity with memory care techniques, especially for those with cognitive impairments, is a plus.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities is highly valued.
Requirements (Must have at least one of these 3)
- Currently listed as an active CNA on the Maine Registry of Certified Nursing Assistants and Direct Care Workers.
- Successfully completed Personal Support Specialist training or a Department-approved program related to the provision of personal care.
- Has been enrolled in Personal Support Specialist training or a Department-approved program related to the provision of personal care within 60 calendar days of hire.
