We are seeking an experienced Program Director to drive execution of our Life Sciences Growth Strategy. This role serves as the operational backbone for a cross-functional portfolio of initiatives, ensuring that strategic priorities translate into coordinated, on-track delivery. The ideal candidate combines strong program management discipline with enough technical fluency to work credibly with engineering, product, data, and clinical/regulatory stakeholders, and enough business acumen to keep execution tied to growth outcomes.
This is a high-visibility, individual contributor role reporting into senior leadership, with regular exposure to executive stakeholders and cross-functional teams across the Life Sciences business.
Own portfolio execution: Serve as the central point of coordination across the Life Sciences Growth Strategy portfolio, tracking scope, timelines, dependencies, risks, and resourcing across multiple concurrent workstreams.
Drive delivery cadence: Establish and run program governance — status reviews, steering committees, roadmap check-ins — that keep leadership and stakeholders aligned on progress and blockers.
Manage cross-functional dependencies: Identify and resolve interdependencies between engineering, product, data science, commercial, regulatory, and clinical teams; escalate and unblock issues before they threaten timelines.
Translate strategy into execution plans: Partner with leadership to break the Growth Strategy's priorities into structured programs, workstreams, and milestones with clear owners and success metrics.
Manage risk proactively: Maintain a live risk and issue log across the portfolio; drive mitigation plans and ensure risks are surfaced to the right decision-makers early.
Report on progress and health: Build and maintain portfolio-level dashboards and executive-ready status reporting that clearly communicate progress, risk, and resourcing needs.
Support resource planning: Work with functional leads to understand capacity constraints and help sequence work across the portfolio accordingly.
Champion process improvement: Identify and implement process, tooling, or communication improvements that increase the speed and reliability of execution across the portfolio.
Bridge technical and business conversations: Work fluently with technical teams to understand delivery realities, while translating those realities into business-relevant updates for non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- 14+ years of program or project management experience, including managing complex, multi-workstream portfolios in a technical or product environment.
- Demonstrated experience supporting or driving execution of a strategic initiative at the organizational level (growth strategy, transformation program, multi-team platform effort, etc.).
- Strong working knowledge of program management practices: roadmapping, dependency management, risk management, resource planning, and status reporting.
- Comfort working directly with engineering and technical teams — able to understand technical constraints and trade-offs well enough to manage timelines and risk credibly.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, including experience communicating with and influencing senior leadership.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to synthesize complex, cross-functional information into clear, actionable updates.
- Proven ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy and ownership in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
- Experience in Life Sciences, healthcare, pharma, or a related regulated industry.
- Familiarity with regulatory, clinical, or commercial workflows relevant to Life Sciences organizations.
- Experience with program management tooling (e.g., Jira, Asana, Smartsheet, Confluence) and portfolio-level reporting.
- PMP, PgMP, SAFe, or equivalent program/project management certification.
- Experience building or scaling program governance structures from the ground up.

Program Director Jobs in Raleigh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a program director job in Raleigh?
Focus your search on Raleigh's strongest hiring sectors: life sciences companies clustered around Research Triangle Park, health systems anchored by WakeMed and UNC Rex, state government agencies near the Capitol, and the growing technology corridor along the I-440 beltline. Candidates who combine PMP certification or an advanced degree with demonstrated cross-functional team leadership stand out in this market. Applying directly to large research universities, hospital networks, and RTP-based biopharma companies gives you the widest exposure to open roles.
Which companies hire program directors in Raleigh?
Employers hiring program directors in Raleigh right now include Intuitive Health, Curtis Media, and YMCA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Raleigh's employer mix skews toward large research institutions, state agencies, health systems, and mid-size technology and life sciences firms with established program management functions.
Are there remote program director jobs in Raleigh?
Yes, though availability depends on the role type: program directors in technology, policy, and analytics tend to work remotely more often, while those overseeing clinical, facilities, or community programs are typically on-site. About 100% of program director openings tied to Raleigh are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the highest share found in software, consulting, and government-adjacent organizations. Technology companies along the RTP corridor account for most of the fully remote postings.
How can I get a program director job in Raleigh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Raleigh is moving up from a program coordinator or project manager role inside one of the city's large institutions, particularly state agencies, NC State University, UNC Health, or mid-size nonprofits headquartered downtown. These employers regularly promote internally and hire coordinators who demonstrate initiative on complex projects. Building familiarity with grant management or clinical operations gives you an edge specific to Raleigh's dominant sectors, where those skills are consistently in demand.
