Project Accountant Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a project accountant job in Houston?
Target Houston's energy, construction, and engineering sectors, which drive the highest local demand for project accountants. The Energy Corridor and Greenway Plaza are dense with employers in oil and gas EPC and infrastructure. Candidates who combine cost-control experience with familiarity in project cost systems like SAP or Oracle stand out. Networking through local chapters of professional associations also opens doors that online applications miss.
Which companies hire project accountants in Houston?
Companies currently hiring project accountants in Houston include Hines, HDR, and KBR, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Houston's market skews heavily toward large energy operators, engineering and procurement construction firms, and commercial real estate developers, all of which maintain ongoing project accounting needs.
Are there remote project accountant jobs in Houston?
Yes, though project accountant roles are more site-dependent than purely desk-based finance positions, particularly when the work involves field cost reporting or contractor invoice reconciliation. About 60% of project accountant openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with flexibility concentrated in reporting, forecasting, and financial analysis functions rather than hands-on project site support.
How can I get a project accountant job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is landing a staff or junior accountant role at an engineering, construction, or energy firm and transitioning into project cost work from there. Houston's large EPC contractors and midstream operators regularly hire accounting assistants and cost technicians as feeders into project accounting. Familiarity with job cost modules in Oracle or SAP, even from coursework, gives entry-level candidates a meaningful edge locally.
Which industries hire the most project accountants in Houston?
Houston project accountant roles concentrate in Manufacturing and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Houston's identity as a global energy hub and a major center for engineering and construction activity means these sectors generate a steady pipeline of capital projects that require dedicated project accounting support year-round.
