Accounting Specialist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an accounting specialist in Texas?
The typical path is a two- or four-year degree in accounting or business from an accredited Texas college or university, followed by entry-level work in accounts payable, receivable, or bookkeeping. Texas does not require a state license to work as an accounting specialist, though earning a Certified Bookkeeper credential from the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers or pursuing CPA eligibility through the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy strengthens your candidacy considerably.
Which companies hire accounting specialists in Texas?
Employers hiring accounting specialists in Texas right now include JPMorganChase, Kestra Financial, and Celanese, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy companies, major hospital networks, and Fortune 500 headquarters means steady, year-round demand for accounting specialists across industries.
Which Texas cities have the most accounting specialist jobs?
Dallas, Austin, and Houston consistently have the most accounting specialist openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense cluster of energy, petrochemical, and engineering firms, Dallas draws demand from corporate headquarters and financial services companies, and San Antonio's large healthcare systems and military-adjacent contractors sustain steady hiring for accounting support roles.
Are there remote accounting specialist jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields, since accounting specialist work is largely desk-based and document-driven. About 19% of accounting specialist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting broader adoption of flexible work across corporate finance departments. General ledger, accounts payable, and financial reporting tasks tend to be the most remote-friendly, while roles requiring on-site document handling or cash management are typically in-person.
How can I get hired as an accounting specialist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an accounts payable or accounts receivable clerk role, which large Texas employers such as hospital networks, energy companies, and retail headquarters regularly post for candidates without prior specialist experience. Community colleges like Austin Community College and Houston Community College offer accounting certificate programs that improve your candidacy quickly. Lateral moves from administrative assistant or office coordinator roles that included invoice processing or expense tracking are common, and earning a Certified Bookkeeper credential from the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers gives hiring managers a concrete reason to consider you ahead of other entry-level applicants.
Where can I find and apply to accounting specialist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to accounting specialist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Search the listings, find a role that fits your experience and target city, and apply directly to the employer.
