The standard path in Texas begins with earning a CPA license through the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, which requires passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Exam and meeting Texas's education and experience requirements. Most tax senior managers hold at least a bachelor's degree in accounting and spend several years progressing through staff, senior, and manager roles in a public accounting firm or corporate tax department before reaching the senior manager level.
How much do tax senior managers make in Texas?
Tax senior managers in Texas earn a median of about $80,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,380 for the lowest 10% to over $132,040 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax senior managers in Texas?
Employers hiring tax senior managers in Texas right now include Weaver, BDO, and Deloitte, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Texas's concentration of energy companies, regional banks, and Big Four and national accounting firm offices makes it one of the most consistent states for tax senior manager openings year-round.
Which Texas cities have the most tax senior manager jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin lead Texas for tax senior manager openings. Houston's dominance reflects its deep base of energy and petrochemical companies with large in-house tax departments, Dallas draws significant volume from corporate headquarters and Big Four offices concentrated in the Metroplex, and Austin's growth is driven by expanding technology and professional services firms that have relocated or grown their Texas presence in recent years.
Are there remote tax senior manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 40% of tax senior manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of senior tax work. Tax provision, federal compliance review, and research projects tend to be the most remote-compatible functions, while roles involving direct client relationship management or local regulatory filings are more likely to require in-office presence.
