Tax Senior Manager Jobs in North Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax senior manager in North Carolina?
The concrete path starts with earning a CPA license through the North Carolina State Board of CPA Examiners, which requires passing the Uniform CPA Examination and meeting the state's education and experience hours. Most candidates hold a master's in accounting or taxation. From there, progression through staff, senior, and manager roles at a public accounting firm or in a corporate tax department in Charlotte or the Research Triangle typically precedes promotion to senior manager.
How much do tax senior managers make in North Carolina?
Tax senior managers in North Carolina earn a median of about $82,050 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,610 for the lowest 10% to over $146,100 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax senior managers in North Carolina?
Employers hiring tax senior managers in North Carolina right now include TJT, Jobot, and KPMG, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. North Carolina's concentration of large financial institutions and headquarters in Charlotte, alongside the Research Triangle's professional services cluster, means both Big Four firms and major corporate in-house tax departments are consistently active in the market.
Which North Carolina cities have the most tax senior manager jobs?
Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro lead North Carolina for tax senior manager openings. Charlotte drives volume as the state's financial hub and home to major bank and insurance headquarters, while Raleigh and Durham benefit from the Research Triangle's dense cluster of technology companies, life sciences firms, and professional services offices that all require in-house or outsourced senior tax expertise.
Are there remote tax senior manager jobs in North Carolina?
Yes, and more than most fields, because tax senior manager work is fundamentally analytical and document-driven rather than on-site. About 59% of tax senior manager openings tied to North Carolina are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting broad industry acceptance of flexible arrangements in corporate tax and public accounting. Federal and multi-state compliance work, ASC 740 provision projects, and tax research roles tend to be the most remote-compatible within the position.
How can I get hired as a tax senior manager in North Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a public accounting firm in Charlotte or Raleigh at the staff or senior associate level, where firms like the regional offices of the Big Four and large local practices run structured associate development programs that build toward management. Lateral moves from tax compliance analyst or tax accountant roles at North Carolina corporate headquarters also provide a credible bridge. Sitting for the CPA exam through the North Carolina State Board of CPA Examiners signals commitment and gives candidates a measurable edge over those without the credential.
Where can I find and apply to tax senior manager jobs in North Carolina?
