Tax Senior Manager Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax senior manager in Minnesota?
The standard path starts with earning a CPA license through the Minnesota Board of Accountancy, which requires passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Exam and completing the required hours of supervised accounting experience. Most candidates build their technical foundation in public accounting at a regional or national firm before moving into a manager role and eventually senior manager. A master's degree in taxation strengthens candidacy, particularly at larger Minnesota employers with complex multistate or international tax work.
How much do tax senior managers make in Minnesota?
Tax senior managers in Minnesota earn a median of about $81,600 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $58,280 for the lowest 10% to over $138,960 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax senior managers in Minnesota?
Minnesota tax senior manager roles are posted by BDO, KPMG, and CohnReznick and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Minnesota's concentration of Fortune 500 and large private company headquarters in the Twin Cities creates consistent in-house demand alongside the Big Four and regional public accounting firms with offices in Minneapolis.
Which Minnesota cities have the most tax senior manager jobs?
Minneapolis, Plymouth, and Hopkins have the most tax senior manager openings in Minnesota. Minneapolis drives the largest share because it is home to major corporate headquarters and national accounting firm offices, while St. Paul adds public-sector and insurance-sector demand, and suburban markets like Bloomington and Eden Prairie reflect the significant employer campuses west of the city core.
Are there remote tax senior manager jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 67% of tax senior manager openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves research, review, and preparation that does not require a physical presence. The most fully remote openings tend to be in corporate compliance and provision roles, while client-facing public accounting positions more commonly require regular in-office or on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a tax senior manager in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is a structured associate or staff tax role at a Minnesota public accounting firm, where firms like Eide Bailly, CliftonLarsonAllen, and the regional offices of national firms run formal new-hire programs that build toward manager-track progression. Candidates coming from adjacent roles such as audit senior, financial analyst, or tax accountant in a corporate setting can position a lateral move toward a senior manager track by obtaining their CPA license through the Minnesota Board of Accountancy and targeting employers with defined internal promotion ladders.
