- Provides for the seamless transition of patients across the continuum of care. In collaboration with medical staff, to ensure a superior care experience and a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Coordinates patient care for the department of psychiatry during off-shift hours of operation.
- Manages staffing during a census surge or decline.
- Manages and coordinates patient flow i.e., admissions and discharges.
- Provides strategic support for shortages or difficult to manage patient scenarios.
- Supervises codes (Such as medical emergencies, Rapid responses, psychiatric emergencies, and Code Red).
- Supervisory rounding on all inpatient areas where MHTs or other contract staff employees are working, to offer support and ensure department policy and protocols are being followed as designed (ex. patient observations occurring as ordered).
- Communicates in a timely manner with the Leadership Team
- Interfaces with police and other regulatory agencies that come on-site when administrators are not present.
- Completes Performance Improvement/Quality Audits.
- Builds trust with the nursing staff through visibility.
- Maintains accurate timekeeping records for employee payroll
- Staff units safely based on patient care needs
- Evaluates nursing employees performance
- Coach staff in real time and follow up on a consistent basis
- Conduct disciplinary actions when necessary
- Provide clinical support and expertise to nursing staff.
- Attend all mandatory competencies
- Communicate vital information to other members of the nursing leadership team on a timely manner to enhance continuity
- Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, preferably in an Inpatient psychiatric setting.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in management and leadership with knowledge of data management and analysis.
- Must be flexible to adjust to the needs of a fast-paced environment, demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, and display proficient oral/written communication skills.
- Previous adult behavioral health experience is strongly preferred.
- Must have active DC RN license or be eligible for endorsement.
- Master’s degree in nursing, Healthcare, Public Administration or Business is strongly preferred.
- This position reports to the Assistant Director of Nursing.
- This position has indirect supervisory responsibilities as needed.
