Project Consultant Jobs in Honolulu: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a project consultant job in Honolulu?
Focus on the sectors that drive most local hiring: state and federal government agencies, defense contractors, construction and engineering firms, and professional services companies concentrated downtown and in Kakaako. Candidates with experience managing government contracts, familiarity with Hawaii-specific permitting processes, or a background in military-adjacent project work stand out. Building relationships through the Hawaii Chapter of PMI or local industry events also opens doors that online applications alone often don't.
Which companies hire project consultants in Honolulu?
Honolulu project consultant roles are posted by CVS Health, First Hawaiian Bank, and HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local market leans heavily on federal agencies, defense primes, state government contractors, and mid-size engineering and construction firms that maintain a strong Honolulu presence.
Are there remote project consultant jobs in Honolulu?
Yes, though it depends on the role type: analytical, PMO, and advisory project consultant positions run remote or hybrid more often than hands-on construction or facilities roles, which typically require on-site presence. About 36% of project consultant openings tied to Honolulu are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with the highest share in technology, professional services, and government program management. Client-facing or site-inspection work remains largely in person.
How can I get a project consultant job in Honolulu with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Honolulu is through coordinator or project analyst roles at state agencies, county government offices, or federally funded nonprofits, which regularly hire early-career candidates and provide structured project exposure. Internships with engineering firms working on Honolulu infrastructure projects or administrative roles at defense contractors on Oahu are also solid lateral moves. Earning a CAPM certification or completing a PMP prep course signals seriousness to local hiring managers and helps offset thin experience.
Which industries hire the most project consultants in Honolulu?
The sectors hiring the most project consultants in Honolulu are Healthcare & Medical Services, Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Honolulu's economy is shaped by federal defense spending, state government programs, and a construction pipeline tied to infrastructure and development projects, which keeps demand for project consultants durable across those sectors.
