Director Of Program Management Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a director of program management in Hawaii?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or information systems followed by progressive project and program management roles leading to senior leadership. Hawaii does not issue a state license for program management, but most employers on the islands expect a Project Management Professional certification and substantial leadership tenure. Candidates targeting defense or federal clients in Hawaii also benefit from obtaining or maintaining a security clearance early in their careers.
How much do director of program managements make in Hawaii?
Director of program managements in Hawaii earn a median of about $78,000 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,930 for the lowest 10% to over $150,440 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire director of program managements in Hawaii?
Hawaii director of program management roles are posted by First Hawaiian Bank, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Aon and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The defense and federal services sector anchors most of this hiring across Oahu, making Hawaii's director-level market distinct from mainland tech or commercial program management hubs.
Which Hawaii cities have the most director of program management jobs?
Honolulu, Ford Island, and Hawaii account for the largest share of director of program management openings in Hawaii. Honolulu dominates because it hosts the headquarters of the state's largest defense contractors, federal civilian agencies, and major healthcare systems, while Pearl City and Kapolei draw demand from adjacent military installations and the growing technology corridor on Oahu's western side.
Are there remote director of program management jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, and more than many senior leadership roles, since program oversight work is largely strategic and communication-driven rather than hands-on. About 40% of director of program management openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, though roles tied to classified defense programs or on-island federal clients typically require in-person presence. Strategy, vendor management, and reporting-heavy program functions are the most likely to allow remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a director of program management in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a program coordinator or project manager role inside a Hawaii defense contractor or health system, where internal promotion to director is common. Large Hawaii employers such as Booz Allen Hamilton and Queen's Health System regularly bring in associate program managers and develop them through formal mentorship tracks. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential and building experience on federally funded Hawaii projects gives candidates a concrete edge when making the case for a first director-level role.
Where can I find and apply to director of program management jobs in Hawaii?
