Project Controls Specialist Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a project controls specialist job in Houston?
Focus your search on Houston's energy and engineering-procurement-construction sectors, where demand for project controls professionals is deepest. The Energy Corridor, Greenway Plaza, and downtown Houston house the largest concentration of employers. Candidates who can demonstrate hands-on EPC or capital project experience, proficiency with Primavera P6, and familiarity with cost-control on large industrial projects stand out in this market.
Which companies hire project controls specialists in Houston?
Employers hiring project controls specialists in Houston right now include Fluor, Johnson Controls, and WSP, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's hiring pool is dominated by major oil and gas operators, engineering and construction firms, and infrastructure contractors that manage large capital programs across the Gulf Coast region.
Are there remote project controls specialist jobs in Houston?
Yes, but selectively: project controls work tied to active construction sites or field operations is almost always on-site, while cost-engineering, scheduling analysis, and reporting functions are more likely to go hybrid or remote. About 18% of project controls specialist openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. The analytical and reporting side of the role is where Houston employers most often allow flexible arrangements.
How can I get a project controls specialist job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is through a junior cost engineer, project controls analyst, or planning coordinator role at a mid-size EPC firm or owner-operator. Houston has a large community of engineering and construction companies that run structured graduate or junior programs, particularly in the Energy Corridor. Building familiarity with Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project, and pursuing an AACE International certification, gives early-career candidates a concrete edge in local interviews.
Which industries hire the most project controls specialists in Houston?
The sectors hiring the most project controls specialists in Houston are Consulting & Professional Services, Energy, and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's position as the energy capital of the United States drives sustained demand, with major capital investment in upstream, midstream, and downstream projects generating a consistent need for scheduling and cost-control professionals.
