Design Project Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a design project manager in Texas?
Most Texas employers expect a bachelor's degree in architecture, interior design, engineering, or a related discipline as the foundation. From there, gaining project coordination experience and earning a PMP certification through the Project Management Institute strengthens your candidacy significantly. Texas does not require a state-issued license specific to the design project manager title, though roles overlapping with architecture or engineering may require proximity to a licensed professional of record.
How much do design project managers make in Texas?
Design project managers in Texas earn a median of about $98,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $57,460 for the lowest 10% to over $162,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire design project managers in Texas?
Employers hiring design project managers in Texas right now include Colliers Engineering & Design, Arcadis, and Apple, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of major architecture firms, tech campuses, and energy-sector headquarters makes it one of the more consistent states for sustained design project management hiring across both the public and private sectors.
Which Texas cities have the most design project manager jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio have the most design project manager openings in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth's density of corporate headquarters and commercial development firms drives the bulk of demand, while Houston's energy and infrastructure sector fuels a separate concentration, and Austin's technology and product company growth has made it an increasingly active market for design-focused project management roles.
Are there remote design project manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many comparable roles. About 28% of design project manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the role involves stakeholder communication, scheduling, and documentation that translates well to distributed work. The most remote-friendly responsibilities include vendor coordination, project reporting, and design review cycles, while site-dependent phases like construction administration typically require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a design project manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a project coordinator role at a Texas architecture, construction management, or technology firm, where you support senior project managers directly and build hands-on experience. Large Texas employers such as Jacobs, Gensler, and AECOM periodically bring on junior project staff through associate or rotational programs. A portfolio documenting academic or freelance design work, combined with an entry-level PMP-adjacent credential such as the CAPM, gives candidates without formal experience a concrete advantage in competitive markets like Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin.
Where can I find and apply to design project manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to design project manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and target location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
