Project Management Consultant Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project management consultant in Rhode Island?
Rhode Island does not require a state-issued license to work as a project management consultant, so the path runs through education and professional certification. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field, followed by the Project Management Professional credential issued by the Project Management Institute. Candidates often enter through analyst or coordinator roles at Providence-area healthcare systems, defense contractors, or financial services firms before moving into a consulting capacity.
How much do project management consultants make in Rhode Island?
Project management consultants in Rhode Island earn a median of about $104,680 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,750 for the lowest 10% to over $170,050 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project management consultants in Rhode Island?
Companies currently hiring project management consultants in Rhode Island include CVS Health, Fidelity Investments, and Citizens, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's concentration of large healthcare networks, defense contractors, and regional financial institutions means demand for project management consultants stays relatively consistent across economic cycles.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most project management consultant jobs?
Providence, Rhode Island, and Smithfield hold the most project management consultant openings in Rhode Island. Providence drives the largest share because it is home to the state's biggest healthcare systems, corporate headquarters, and government agencies, while Cranston and Warwick generate additional volume through their established clusters of financial services firms and defense-related operations.
Are there remote project management consultant jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, and more than many fields, because project management consulting is primarily a coordination and communication role that can run effectively across distributed teams. About 57% of project management consultant openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader adoption of flexible delivery models. The most remote-friendly sub-areas are IT program management and PMO advisory work, while on-site presence is more common for construction and facilities projects.
How can I get hired as a project management consultant in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a project coordinator or junior analyst role at a Providence-area employer, where you support senior consultants and build documented delivery experience. Lifespan and Brown University Health both run structured associate and rotational programs that develop early-career candidates in project-driven environments. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential from the Project Management Institute strengthens applications significantly when experience is limited, and a portfolio of even small-scope projects, volunteer or academic, gives Rhode Island hiring managers something concrete to evaluate.
Where can I find and apply to project management consultant jobs in Rhode Island?
You can find and apply to project management consultant jobs in Rhode Island on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings in the state. Search the listings, identify the roles that match your background and target employers, and apply directly to whichever ones fit your situation.
