Project Team Leader Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project team leader in New York?
Most project team leaders in New York enter the role after earning a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, construction management, or a related field, then building several years of experience in a coordinator or analyst role. New York employers across finance, healthcare, and construction strongly favor candidates who hold a Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute, which requires documented project experience and a proctored exam. There is no New York state license specific to this role.
How much do project team leaders make in New York?
Project team leaders in New York earn a median of about $121,040 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,580 for the lowest 10% to over $192,160 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project team leaders in New York?
Employers hiring project team leaders in New York right now include Bloomberg, Whole Foods Market, and Popli Design, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of global financial institutions, major health systems, and large-scale construction firms means demand for project leadership is consistent across industries and persists beyond seasonal hiring cycles.
Which New York cities have the most project team leader jobs?
New York, Massapequa Park, and Rochester have the most project team leader openings in New York. New York City drives the bulk of postings given its density of corporate headquarters, hospital systems, and infrastructure projects, while Albany's state government agencies generate steady public-sector demand and Buffalo's growing tech and healthcare sectors have expanded hiring in recent years.
Are there remote project team leader jobs in New York?
Yes, and they're more common than in many hands-on roles. About 11% of project team leader openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the role involves documentation, coordination, and stakeholder communication that can be done off-site. The most remote-compatible work tends to be in IT, software implementation, and financial services projects, while construction and facilities projects almost always require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a project team leader in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into the role from a coordinator, analyst, or associate position at a large New York employer. Healthcare systems such as NewYork-Presbyterian and NYC Health and Hospitals regularly bring in project coordinators who grow into leadership roles, and major construction firms like Skanska and AECOM run structured project engineer and field coordinator programs for early-career candidates. Earning a CAPM certification before applying signals readiness and gives candidates without a formal project management background a concrete credential to point to.
Where can I find and apply to project team leader jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to project team leader jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings across industries and experience levels. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employers posting them.
