R D Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a r d engineer in New York?
Most r d engineer roles in New York require at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, applied physics, chemistry, or a related discipline, with many employers preferring a master's or doctoral degree for senior research positions. New York does not require a state-issued engineering license specifically for R&D roles, though candidates pursuing dual roles in design or public-facing engineering work may pursue Professional Engineer licensure through the New York State Education Department. A strong portfolio of research projects, publications, or patents strengthens candidacy significantly.
Which companies hire r d engineers in New York?
Employers hiring r d engineers in New York right now include Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital, Baker Hughes, and Linde, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of defense contractors, pharmaceutical companies, and semiconductor manufacturers means openings are spread across both the New York City metro and upstate research corridors like Albany and Rochester.
Which New York cities have the most r d engineer jobs?
The cities with the most r d engineer openings in New York are East River Rd, Skaneateles, and Cortland. New York City drives volume through its dense biotech, pharma, and advanced materials sectors, while Albany benefits from the SUNY research ecosystem and semiconductor investment, and Rochester has long been anchored by optics, imaging, and precision manufacturing employers that maintain active R&D divisions.
Are there remote r d engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. R&D engineering work typically requires access to lab equipment, prototypes, or controlled testing environments that cannot be replicated remotely. About 0% of r d engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be in computational modeling, data analysis, or regulatory documentation roles that don't require physical lab presence.
How can I get hired as a r d engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a co-op, internship, or research assistant role at a New York university lab or corporate R&D site, which many large employers use as a direct pipeline for full-time hires. Institutions like Cornell Tech, Columbia, RPI, and Stony Brook regularly place early-career candidates with partnered employers. Applying for associate or junior engineer titles at upstate manufacturers or biotech firms in the Hudson Valley is another concrete route, especially with a capstone project or thesis that demonstrates applied research experience.
Where can I find and apply to r d engineer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to r d engineer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly.
