Provider Relations Specialist Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a provider relations specialist in Maryland?
Most Maryland employers require a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, or public health as the foundation for this role. No state-issued license is mandated, but candidates who complete a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist credential through the National Association of Medical Staff Services gain a measurable edge with Maryland health plans and hospital systems. Starting in provider enrollment, credentialing coordination, or member services at a Maryland insurer or health system is the most direct path into a dedicated provider relations role.
Which companies hire provider relations specialists in Maryland?
Companies currently hiring provider relations specialists in Maryland include State Farm, GEICO, and Johns Hopkins University, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Maryland's concentration of regional health plans, academic medical centers, and Medicaid managed care organizations means demand is spread across both large systems and mid-size carriers operating in the state.
Which Maryland cities have the most provider relations specialist jobs?
The cities with the most provider relations specialist openings in Maryland are Baltimore, Bethesda, and Rockville. Baltimore anchors demand through its dense cluster of hospital systems, regional health plans, and managed care offices, while the D.C.-adjacent suburbs like Bethesda, Rockville, and Columbia draw openings from national insurers and government health contractors that maintain significant Maryland operations.
Are there remote provider relations specialist jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than most healthcare roles, since provider relations work is largely desk-based, involving phone outreach, data management, and contract review rather than hands-on patient care. About 53% of provider relations specialist openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the role's strong fit for distributed work. Network development and credentialing-focused positions tend to have the highest share of fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a provider relations specialist in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting in a provider enrollment coordinator or member services role at a Maryland health plan or hospital system, then moving laterally once you have working knowledge of claims and credentialing workflows. CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and the University of Maryland Medical System regularly bring on associates and coordinators without deep prior experience, especially candidates who hold or are pursuing a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist credential. Community college programs in healthcare administration across the Baltimore and Montgomery County area also produce candidates that Maryland managed care employers actively recruit.
Where can I find and apply to provider relations specialist jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to provider relations specialist jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maryland openings from health plans, hospital networks, and managed care organizations across the state.
