Psychologist Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a psychologist job in Chicago?
Targeting Chicago's largest hiring sectors gives you the clearest path: hospital systems anchored in Streeterville and the Medical District, federally qualified health centers serving the South and West Sides, and university-affiliated clinics in Hyde Park and Lincoln Park hire consistently. Specializations in trauma, substance use, and pediatric psychology are in high demand locally. Networking through the Illinois Psychological Association's Chicago chapter and presenting at local conferences sharpens your visibility in a competitive market.
Which companies hire psychologists in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring psychologists in Chicago include LifeStance Health, Rush University Medical Center, and Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Chicago's employer base ranges from large academic medical centers and VA facilities to community behavioral health nonprofits and corporate employee assistance program providers headquartered downtown.
Are there remote psychologist jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though remote availability depends heavily on the role type. Hands-on clinical positions require in-person presence, while assessment consulting, research, and EAP roles are more frequently remote. About 46% of psychologist openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, skewing toward corporate wellness and research roles. Telehealth positions tied to Chicago-based health systems have also expanded significantly in recent years.
How can I get a psychologist job in Chicago with little or no experience?
Pursuing a practicum or postdoctoral fellowship at one of Chicago's large academic medical centers, such as those affiliated with Rush, Loyola, or Northwestern, is the most direct entry path. Community mental health agencies on the South and West Sides regularly take on pre-licensed associates and early-career clinicians. School district contracts with Chicago Public Schools and positions at university counseling centers also offer realistic footholds for candidates building their supervised hours.
