Job Description:
HLTH 331 introduces undergraduate health administration students to the principles and practices of healthcare quality assurance, performance improvement, patient safety, risk management, and regulatory compliance. The course emphasizes leadership competencies, measurement frameworks, continuous improvement models (e.g., PDSA, Lean, Six Sigma), and the integration of ethical, legal, and strategic considerations into quality management systems.
Job Requirements
Education:
Doctoral degree (PhD, DNP, DrPH, DHA, DSc, or equivalent) in Health Services Administration, Public Health, Healthcare Quality, Nursing, Business Administration, or a related field with a focus on healthcare management, policy, or systems leadership.
Experience:
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in healthcare quality, performance improvement, patient safety, or regulatory compliance in clinical, administrative, or consulting settings.
- Demonstrated familiarity with national quality frameworks (e.g., IHI Model for Improvement, CMS Quality Measures, Joint Commission standards, NCQA, AHRQ, or NAHQ CPHQ domains).
- Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level is strongly preferred, particularly in health administration or quality management programs.
Professional Competencies:
- Mastery of quality improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis, PDSA cycles).
- Ability to integrate data analytics and performance measurement tools to evaluate quality outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of risk management, patient safety, and compliance frameworks within both acute and post-acute care environments.
- Evidence of leadership and collaboration in interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Familiarity with federal and state regulatory standards relevant to healthcare organizations (CMS, OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission).
Additional Information
Preferred Qualifications:
- National certification in healthcare quality or patient safety, such as Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS), or Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt.
- Experience supervising or mentoring students in quality improvement projects or capstone research.
- Evidence of scholarly engagement (publications, conference presentations, or applied research) in healthcare quality, performance improvement, or safety science.
- Proficiency with health information systems, data visualization tools, and performance dashboards.
