Job Summary:

Location: Methodist Hospital

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, 6:45am to 5:15pm, 4 - 10 hour shifts no call requirements; expected to finish EP cases

Performs diagnostic imaging examinations within the electrophysiology lab. Upon orientation and successful completion of on-the-job training, assists with diagnostic angiographic procedures to assist in the completion of electrophysiology procedures. Demonstrates effective technical, radiographic, and clinical skills; the ability to multitask is essential. This position requires knowledge of sterile technique and pan-scrubbing.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

1. Exam Performance/Quality
2. Identifies each patient by two identifiers and ensures patient understanding of pending procedure.
3. Provides comfort measures and engages patient to obtain optimal cooperation and positioning.
4. Critiques each exam for technical and positional accuracy and makes appropriate corrections if necessary.
5. Performs Exams as their priority dictates.
6. Ensures optimal visualization of anatomy by directing radiographic equipment.
7. Prepares procedural rooms and equipment according to appropriate procedural needs.
8. Assists cardiologist/electrophysiologist during procedures by operating ancillary equipment, anticipating and obtaining catheters, wires and other necessary inventory as ordered.
9. Assists in the performance of various invasive cardiac or electrophysiological diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
10. Functions under the direction and immediate supervision of the cardiologist/electrophysiologist performing the procedure.

11. Provides direct, safe, competent, and quality patient care in the Interventional Cardiology department.

12. Radiology Information system (RIS)/Cerner/Picture Archival Communication System (PACS)/Outlook/MHSIntranet

13. Maintains a working knowledge of system applications.
14. Consistently uses proper system applications for order modification, to document comments and exposures/repeats.
15. Consistently uses the Online Worklist to monitor orders and order status.
16. Demonstrates working knowledge of order entry and ability to order correct exams with proper indications. Starts, completes, and bills appropriately for exam(s) performed.
17. Matches digital images to RIS orders, for viewing in PACS.

18. Operates contrast injector, cleans and tears down equipment daily, and for deep cleaning weekly.

19. Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the “Age Specific Criteria” Population Specific Criteria.

20. Successfully completes annual Age Specific Competency Quiz.

21. Implements interventions that are consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner (Professional Models of Care). Revises and individualizes care to address the patient's needs for optimum patient care outcomes (Consultation and Resources).

22. Identifies and follows protocols and standards of care for unit including Infection Control, food and drinks in lab and cell phones in procedure room.
23. Collaborates with physicians and other clinical disciplines as appropriate.
24. Provides teaching specific to the patient's health care problem.
25. Builds and uses knowledge based on current standards and research literature.
26. Participates actively in time out according to the hospital policy.

27. Continually monitors the patient and/or significant other(s) ability to manage care needs after dismissal from Cardiac Cath Lab (helps transfer patient and report on groin site).

28. Performs technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety. (Autonomy, Professional Development)

30. Understands importance of sterility and is able to establish and maintain sterile field on daily basis.

48. Reviews, delegates and evaluates plans for appropriate utilization of staff at all levels of practice in accordance with the provision of the hospital and the Professional Standards of Practice.

Job Requirements

Education

- Associate degree from approved American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (AART) School of Radiology Technology required.
- Bachelor degree from approved American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (AART) School of Radiology Technology preferred.
- Satisfactory completion of annual mandatory educational requirements.

Experience

- 1 year of experience in Radiology is preferred.
- 1 year in a Cardiac Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology preferred.

License/Certifications

- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R) registered or board eligible required. ARRT Radiography credential must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
- Current Medical Radiographer (RAD.NE) license from Nebraska Department of Health required.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
- Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 2 months of hire.
- Certification in area of specialty preferred:
+ Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
+ or
+ Cardiac Interventional Radiography (RT.CI.ARRT)

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients and family members as well as providers and coworkers.
- Knowledge of invasive cardiac and electrophysiology diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Ability to meet the needs of physician during surgical procedure(s).
- Skill in preparing and completing patient records/documentation.
- Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks, conduct problem solving and prioritize work assignments.
- Position requires flexibility to accommodate fluctuation in daily schedule, including but not limited to overtime, irregular hours, and on-call responsibilities.
