OR Tech Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a or tech in Nebraska?
Nebraska requires surgical technologists to hold a state registration issued by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, which means completing an accredited surgical technology program and holding or obtaining the Certified Surgical Technologist credential. Accredited programs are available at institutions including Southeast Community College in Lincoln. After completing clinical hours and passing the national certification exam, you submit a registration application to the state before practicing independently in Nebraska facilities.
Which companies hire or techs in Nebraska?
Nebraska or tech roles are posted by Target, Midwest Urgent Care, and Antelope Memorial Hospital and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Nebraska's largest health systems, including those anchored in Omaha and Lincoln, tend to post the most consistent volume across both inpatient and outpatient surgical settings.
Which Nebraska cities have the most or tech jobs?
Omaha, Neligh, and Lincoln lead Nebraska for or tech openings. Omaha's concentration of major health systems and Level I trauma centers drives the bulk of statewide demand, while Lincoln's university medical complex and Bryan Health sustain a steady secondary market, and smaller regional hubs like Grand Island and Kearney see openings tied to community hospital surgical programs serving broader rural catchment areas.
Are there remote or tech jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, but they're rare. OR tech work is inherently hands-on and conducted inside a sterile surgical environment, so the role is almost entirely on-site by nature. About 0% of or tech openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those roles are typically limited to education, scheduling coordination, or surgical technology instruction positions rather than direct scrub or circulating duties.
How can I get hired as a or tech in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a CAAHEP-accredited program with strong clinical rotations, since Nebraska employers like Nebraska Medicine and Bryan Health regularly hire new graduates from those pipelines directly into staff positions. Candidates without surgical tech credentials who work as sterile processing technicians or surgical assistants at Nebraska hospital systems often move into or tech roles after demonstrating OR familiarity. Holding your Certified Surgical Technologist credential at graduation removes the most common barrier hiring managers cite for new-grad applicants.
