OR Tech Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an or tech in Minnesota?
Minnesota does not issue a separate state license for surgical technologists, so the path runs through national certification and accredited education. You complete a surgical technology program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES, then sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist exam administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. Most Minnesota hospital systems and ambulatory surgery centers require or strongly prefer the CST credential before hiring.
Which companies hire or techs in Minnesota?
Companies currently hiring or techs in Minnesota include Target, Essentia Health, and Resa Power, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Minnesota's concentration of large integrated health systems and academic medical centers means consistent, year-round openings rather than seasonal spikes.
Which Minnesota cities have the most or tech jobs?
Duluth, Woodbury, and Rochester have the most or tech openings in Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro dominates because of its density of major hospital campuses and ambulatory surgery centers, while Rochester's volume is driven almost entirely by Mayo Clinic's large multispecialty surgical program, making it one of the highest-volume single-site employers in the state.
How can I get hired as an or tech in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an accredited surgical technology program that includes a clinical practicum, then applying to new-grad or extern programs at large Minnesota systems such as Allina Health, M Health Fairview, or HealthPartners, which periodically bring in candidates directly from accredited programs. Central sterile processing technician roles at those same institutions are a common lateral entry point, since the instrument and sterile-field knowledge transfers directly and hiring managers recognize the background.
