The Work You’ll Do:
As a Regulatory Compliance Engineer at Sovos, you will play a central role in validating the quality and accuracy of the rates and rules contained in our tax calculation engines and related products. We update our solution multiple times a month, every month – ensuring rules work the way they were intended is a critical responsibility of this role. Our content quality assurance process utilizes a suite of tools and automated protocols, and the people on this team are the final line of assurance that everything is always right.
Sovos actively works with several state governments by providing certified software solutions enabling accurate compliance (e.g., Streamlined Sales Tax), and the Compliance Engineering team is responsible for ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the data we supply pursuant to these programs.
More specifically, you will:
- Be a part of the team tasked with owning and continuously improving our mission-critical tax content quality assurance process
- Develop deep subject matter expertise in indirect tax rules – how they work, what they’re intended to do, and how they should behave in software
- Understand how tax rules are translated into tax engine logic, and identify where intent and reality diverge
- Create and review suites of test scenarios (unit, automated, and regression) designed to validate the accuracy and completeness of our content changes
- Work with team members to design and implement AI-assisted testing workflows to expand coverage and reduce manual effort across the Content QA process
- Collaborate with Product, Development, Client Support, Professional Services, and Compliance Services teams in enabling the continued success of our Content QA process
- Support our participation in certified compliance programs such as Streamlined Sales Tax, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the data we supply to state governments
- Support coordination of our two primary external audits (SOC 1 Type 2) of our tax content and sales tax filing processes
What We Need From You
- Genuine interest in understanding the complexity of indirect tax compliance
- Academic or work experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Academic or work experience with SQL and/or Python
- Experience or interest in developing AI tools to streamline labor-intensive processes and workflows
- Strong collaboration skills and an ability to work effectively across teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and make sound prioritization decisions
- A persistent, detail-oriented mindset – the kind of person who investigates discrepancies until they’re fully resolved
- A passion for accuracy
- Due to client contractual obligations, the successful candidate will be asked to clear a background check and drug test upon hire

Entry Level Regulatory Compliance Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level regulatory compliance specialist job?
Entry level employers look for candidates with relevant coursework in law, business, life sciences, or public policy, along with any internship or volunteer experience working with regulations, audits, or documentation. Familiarity with compliance frameworks, attention to detail, and strong written communication give candidates a clear edge. Certifications like a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional Associate credential can also help a new grad stand out when professional experience is limited.
Which companies hire entry level regulatory compliance specialists?
Companies hiring entry level regulatory compliance specialists right now include Sovos, loanDepot, and Orlando Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. At this level, hiring tends to come from regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing, where compliance teams regularly bring on junior staff to support audits, reporting, and policy documentation.
Are there remote entry level regulatory compliance specialist jobs?
Yes, though on-site roles remain common at this level. About 15% of entry level regulatory compliance specialist openings are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting demand from organizations that can onboard new grads in distributed teams. Remote roles at this stage often focus on document review, policy research, and regulatory reporting that can be completed independently.
Are these new grad regulatory compliance specialist jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior regulatory compliance specialist roles. A new grad friendly posting typically welcomes candidates with zero to two years of experience and accepts internships, relevant coursework, or a portfolio of compliance projects in place of full professional experience. Look for language like 'will train,' 'entry level welcome,' or 'internship experience considered' when evaluating whether a listing fits your background.
Which industries hire the most entry level regulatory compliance specialists?
Entry Level regulatory compliance specialist roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Banking & Financial Services, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors face ongoing regulatory obligations around safety, reporting, and risk management, which creates consistent demand for junior compliance staff who can support experienced teams with documentation, monitoring, and internal audit work.
