The Role:
We are looking for a highly motivated engineer who is driven to deliver innovative products that keep our customers safe. Must be a self-starter and must work effectively cross-functionally. Working as an USB Design Release Engineer (DRE) can provide one with a strong foundation of leadership skills. The USB DRE is responsible for definition of requirements, execution of design, analysis, development, testing and management of engineering projects for USB Components where creativity, initiative and independent judgment are involved. Additionally, the USB DRE provides technical directions over a Product Development Team consisting of engineers and engineering support personnel. Responsible for the technical project management and design release of a wireless charging system. This includes managing supplier timing; running PDT meetings; issue investigation and resolution; ensuring part deliveries to benches, vehicle retrofits, and assembly plants.
What You'll Do:
- Create and maintain Interface Control Design (ICD) strategy and ICD templates
- Develop & Maintain commodity specific documentation
- Generate and Maintain Global subsystem/component technical specifications templates. (SSTS/CTS)
- Lead resolution of technical issues
- "Close the Loop" on learnings by updating required information (Best Practices, GM Specifications, Statement of Requirements, Template, etc.) and document progress in Problem Resolution Tracking System
- Work cross-functionally within GM, coordinating multiple suppliers
- Lead/manage supplier resident engineers
- Support sourcing activities
- Generate technical solutions for current, new and major programs
- Perform complex design analysis
- Initiate documents to provide engineering authority and to maintain math/CAD data
- Work with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support build programs
- Validation of your module
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- BS in Engineering, Physics, Math, Computer Science or related field
- 2+ years of related USB experience
- Knowledge of microcontroller architectures, memory technologies, and programming
- Understanding of hardware design and failure modes in electronic modules
- Knowledge of vehicle serial data communications
- Demonstrated proficiency in writing and comprehending software/hardware requirements
- Knowledge of software verification/validation processes
- Knowledge of testing and associated tools
- Capability to translate text based functional requirements into software algorithms and models
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult

- MS in Engineering, Physics, Math, Computer Science or related field
- 5+ years of related USB experience
- DFMEA training
- Knowledge of software algorithm design and software architecture
- Engineering Change Management Experience
- Electronic Validation Experience/USB IF Certification Experience
- DFSS Black Belt Certification
- Vehicle Communication Tool Experience
- Wiring and USB experience
- Design/Development of Safety Critical Systems/Components
