Tips for Your Remote Infrastructure Security Engineer Job Search
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote infrastructure security engineer openings from across the U.S. in one place, so you can find roles that match your stack and apply directly without sifting through mixed listings. Early applications get more attention before a role fills.
Document your async security work clearly
Remote infrastructure security teams depend on written runbooks, incident postmortems, and policy documentation. Show examples of security documentation you've authored, whether from a job, a lab environment, or an open-source contribution, to prove you can operate without constant in-person collaboration.
Show cloud and zero-trust experience prominently
Remote infrastructure security roles concentrate heavily in cloud environments. Highlight specific platforms you've hardened, identity and access management work you've done, and any zero-trust architecture implementations, since these are the skills remote hiring managers screen for first.
Prepare for remote-specific technical interview formats
Remote employers often assess infrastructure security engineers through live troubleshooting sessions shared over screen share or written take-home threat-modeling exercises. Practice walking through incident response scenarios verbally and clearly while narrating your reasoning, since communication under pressure is part of what they're evaluating.
Target remote-first companies with distributed security teams
Companies built around remote-first operations already have the tooling, processes, and management culture to support a remote infrastructure security engineer from day one. Prioritize employers with distributed teams and established async workflows over hybrid organizations that are still adapting to remote work.
Remote Infrastructure Security Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote infrastructure security engineer job?
Remote infrastructure security engineer roles go to candidates who can demonstrate both technical depth and the ability to work autonomously without on-site oversight. Remote employers screen heavily for hands-on skills with cloud security platforms, endpoint protection, SIEM tools, and zero-trust architecture. Strong written communication matters too, since remote teams rely on async documentation and incident reporting. Certifications like CISSP, CompTIA Security+, or cloud-provider security credentials give your application a concrete edge.
Which companies hire remote infrastructure security engineers?
Companies hiring remote infrastructure security engineers right now include OpenAI, Included Health, and AFL, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Remote-first technology firms, distributed financial services companies, and cloud-native healthcare organizations are among the most active employers for this role.
Can you get a remote infrastructure security engineer job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level infrastructure security engineer roles are harder to land because employers expect you to work independently from day one without in-person mentorship. Candidates who build a home lab, earn an entry-level security certification, and contribute to open-source security projects can demonstrate readiness in place of a formal work history. Smaller remote-first companies and managed security service providers are more likely to consider career-changers with strong self-taught fundamentals.
Do you need a degree for remote infrastructure security engineer jobs?
Not always. Many remote employers prioritize verifiable technical skills, industry certifications, and demonstrated project experience over a four-year degree, particularly for infrastructure and security-focused roles where hands-on ability is easy to assess. A portfolio showing firewall configuration, cloud hardening, or incident response work carries real weight, and certifications from recognized bodies can substitute for a formal credential in a significant share of remote job postings.
Which industries hire the most remote infrastructure security engineers?
The sectors hiring the most remote infrastructure security engineers are Technology & Software, Banking & Financial Services, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These industries rely on distributed teams managing sensitive data and regulated infrastructure, which makes remote security engineering a practical and preferred staffing model.
