Job Title:Clinical Research Coordinator - Supportive Care, Comprehensive Cancer CenterDepartment:CCC | Palliative MedicinePosition SummaryThe Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) serves as a lead resource for the coordination and execution of clinical research activities within the Center for Research Excellence in Supportive Care (CREST) at the James Cancer Center/Solove Research Institute and the Section for Pain and Palliative Care Research (SPARC) in the Division of Palliative Medicine. CREST focuses on supportive care research in areas such as aging and cognitive impairment, pain and symptom management, substance use, and medical cannabis in individuals with serious illness, particularly cancer. The CRC works closely with principal investigators and research teams to lead, coordinate, and independently manage clinical research studies in compliance with institutional, regulatory, and federal guidelines, including participant recruitment, informed consent, data collection, protocol implementation, preparation and maintenance regulatory documentation, and quality assurance activities. The CRC may serve as a resource to less experienced research staff, facilitate study operations across multiple projects, and contribute to the development of research processes and procedures. Key ResponsibilitiesParticipates in various aspects of research projects including project coordination, quality control activities, and special projects.Serves as lead coordinator for assigned studies and independently oversees daily study operations in accordance with approved protocols.Provides coordination for clinical research studies involving cancer survivors and family members, including participant recruitment, enrollment, retention, and follow-up activities.Coordinates all aspects of study participation, including scheduling, screening, consenting, participant tracking, and follow-up activities.Serves as a liaison with collaborating clinics, study teams, and research participants to support study recruitment, retention, and protocol implementation.Collects, documents, manages, and enters study data into electronic databases (REDCap or other study tracking system) and study records; responds to data queries and ensures data accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.Monitors participants for adverse events, protocol deviations, and reportable events; ensures timely reporting to sponsors, IRBs, ClinicalTrials.gov, and applicable regulatory agencies.Ensures research studies are conducted in compliance with study protocols, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), institutional policies, and federal regulations.Develops, maintains, and improves study tracking systems, REDCap databases, and data collection procedures.Assists with the collection, processing, and distribution of biological specimens according to protocol requirements.Performs electronic medical record documentation, chart review, and data abstraction as required by protocol.Supports development and maintenance of specialized research procedures and assessments, including study-specific participant visits and data collection activities.Collects, extracts, codes, reviews, and analyzes research data; assists with report generation, presentations, manuscripts, and scientific publications.Develops and establishes standardized procedures, rating scales, questionnaires, or behavioral assessments as required by study protocols.Prepares and submits IRB applications, amendments, continuing reviews, and required reports, and serves as a primary point of contact for IRB-related communications for assigned studies.Assists with study start-up activities, feasibility assessments, operational planning, and implementation of new protocols.May train, mentor, and serve as a resource for research staff, students, and junior coordinators.Participates in study-specific trainings, meetings, and monitoring activities; provides regular updates on recruitment, enrollment, follow-up, and study progress.Participates in professional development activities, scientific meetings, and conferences as appropriate.Performs other administrative and research-related duties as assigned.Job RequirementsBachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences, Health Sciences, Social Sciences or other medical field, or equivalent combination of education experience required. 1 year experience in a clinical research capacity conducting clinical research studies required. Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in biological or social sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience required; 3-5 years experience in a clinical research capacity conducting clinical research studies required; experience or knowledge in oncology preferred; knowledge of medical terminology desired; clinical research certification from ACRP (Association of Clinical Research Professionals) or SoCRA (Society of Clinical Research Associates) certification strongly desired.Additional Information:We invite applications from individuals who are passionate about improving the quality of life for patients with cancer and their care partners. Research projects may include studies focused on pain and symptom management, cognitive and behavioral health, quality of life, caregiving, cancer survivorship, communication, and supportive care interventions. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with interdisciplinary teams of physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and other health professionals dedicated to improving cancer care and outcomes.CREST was founded by the OSUCCC – James, which includes over 250 investigators from 17 colleges dedicated to reducing the burden of cancer through basic, clinical, and translational research.
