Research Data Scientist Jobs in Indianapolis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a research data scientist job in Indianapolis?
Target Indianapolis's densest hiring pockets: healthcare systems and life sciences companies anchored in the Midtown and Near Northside corridors, and financial services firms concentrated Downtown. Candidates who combine advanced modeling skills with domain fluency in clinical research, insurance analytics, or biopharma tend to move faster through local hiring pipelines. A portfolio showing end-to-end research projects, from hypothesis to production, gives a clear edge over applicants with coursework alone.
Which companies hire research data scientists in Indianapolis?
Companies currently hiring research data scientists in Indianapolis include Eli Lilly, Indiana University Health, and Quest Diagnostics, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Indianapolis's employer mix skews toward large integrated health systems, pharmaceutical research arms, and regional insurance carriers, all of which maintain ongoing research data science teams rather than project-based hiring.
Are there remote research data scientist jobs in Indianapolis?
Yes, though availability varies by role type: desk-based modeling and statistical analysis work is more often remote, while positions tied to clinical trial data collection or lab-adjacent research tend to require on-site presence. About 18% of research data scientist openings tied to Indianapolis are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common at health systems and pharma employers in the Midtown area.
How can I get a research data scientist job in Indianapolis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Indianapolis is through research analyst or junior data analyst roles at one of the city's health systems or insurance carriers, which regularly hire candidates with graduate-level training even without full professional experience. Contract and temp-to-hire positions at biopharma research sites near the Indiana Bioscience Research Institute also offer structured on-ramps. Building a portfolio with publicly available health or insurance datasets maps directly to what Indianapolis hiring managers review first.
Which industries hire the most research data scientists in Indianapolis?
The sectors hiring the most research data scientists in Indianapolis are Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Medical Devices, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Indianapolis's identity as a national hub for life sciences, health insurance, and clinical research creates sustained baseline demand for research data scientists that outlasts typical tech-sector hiring cycles.
