Research Data Scientist Jobs in Waltham: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a research data scientist job in Waltham?
Focus on Waltham's dominant sectors: biopharma and life sciences companies clustered along Route 128, and enterprise software and analytics firms in the Reservoir Woods and Bear Hill office parks. Candidates with experience in clinical trial data, genomics pipelines, or predictive modeling for regulated industries stand out locally. Networking through events at the Waltham Innovation Hub and targeting mid-size biotech employers gives you a concrete edge over generic applicants.
Which companies hire research data scientists in Waltham?
Companies currently hiring research data scientists in Waltham include Boston Dynamics, Alkermes, and Manus, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Waltham's employer mix skews heavily toward established biopharma firms, clinical-stage biotechs, and data-intensive enterprise tech companies with large R&D footprints in the Route 128 corridor.
Are there remote research data scientist jobs in Waltham?
Yes, though with limits: research data scientist roles that involve lab data pipelines or on-site research collaboration tend to require at least some in-person presence. About 40% of research data scientist openings tied to Waltham are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader flexibility across the sector. Fully remote openings are most common in the enterprise software and analytics firms based in Waltham rather than in biopharma research teams.
How can I get a research data scientist job in Waltham with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Waltham is through a junior data analyst or associate scientist role at one of the Route 128 biopharma or clinical research organizations, many of which run structured rotational or co-op programs. Proficiency in Python, R, and SQL, combined with a portfolio project in biomedical or clinical data, resonates strongly with local hiring managers. Contract and temp-to-perm roles through Waltham-area life sciences staffing firms are another common door in for early-career candidates.
Which industries hire the most research data scientists in Waltham?
The sectors hiring the most research data scientists in Waltham are Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, Science & Research, and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Waltham's position as a Route 128 biotech hub means life sciences and clinical research consistently drive the largest share of local demand, with enterprise technology firms adding a secondary layer of analytical and modeling roles.
