DESCRIPTION

Arizona State University is recruiting two NIH-funded postdoctoral fellows for advanced research training in substance use prevention and implementation science.

Train within the REACH Institute, one of the nation’s longest-standing prevention science institutions. The program prepares the next generation of substance use prevention scientists to translate evidence-based interventions into sustainable real-world systems. Take the next step in your training to develop skills to address the research-practice gap in substance use prevention through postdoctoral training with a focus on prevention science, addiction, implementation science, digital health, and quantitative methods. Past trainees have gone onto careers at prestigious institutions both in academia and industry.

The anticipated start date is between 7/17/2026 and 6/15/2027. The position(s) are full-time, fiscal-year (12-month), benefits-eligible appointment with no tenure implications. For more information regarding benefits, visit

The program is individually tailored to meet the needs and interests of individual fellows. Trainees select multiple mentors from a large and multidisciplinary faculty whose work informs the implementation of preventive interventions with children, youth, adults, families, and communities in settings such as schools, healthcare, community behavioral health, and family courts, as well as eHealth interventions. Emphases include implementation science for the adoption and sustainability of preventive interventions in regular service delivery settings, interventions to reduce health disparities in vulnerable populations, and advanced quantitative research methods in prevention science. In addition, trainees have the ability to work with research-practice partnerships, including practitioners and policymakers, actively addressing individual and societal problems related to substance use and addiction.

QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Participate in mentored research teams to conduct research related to substance use prevention
• Disseminate research through peer reviewed publications and conference presentations
• Receive training in grant preparation and engage in grant submissions
• Attend weekly training seminar
• Attend graduate level science related to addiction and implementation science

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• PhD in a field relevant to substance use prevention and/or implementation science within the last 5 years or anticipated before the appointment start date
• U.S. citizen or permanent resident (per NIH T32 eligibility requirements)
• Evidence of research activity (for example, publications, presentations)
