INTRODUCTION
This position will work in the Trainor Lab in the Department of Pediatrics, Pediatric Research Center. The Pediatric Research Center is home to wide-ranging research focused on identifying the causes of birth defects with the ultimate goal of developing prevention and treatment strategies.
A postdoctoral research fellow would design and perform experiments to investigate how genetic and environmental disruptions affect neural crest cell development, using model organisms such as mice and zebrafish to study craniofacial and enteric nervous system formation. Daily work would also include analyzing developmental phenotypes, interpreting molecular and cellular data, and contributing to manuscripts on congenital disorders such as Treacher Collins syndrome and Hirschsprung’s disease.
Position Summary
A biomedical postdoc position provides an opportunity for early-career researchers to gain valuable experience, develop independent research skills, and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in their field of expertise.
POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Plans and conducts experiments, analyzes data, and prepares publications describing results.
- Assists in training and mentoring of lab personnel, including graduate students and other trainees.
- Reads and evaluates literature.
- Possess interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate and communicate with individuals at all levels.
- Have strong written and oral communication skills.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Hands-on experience with vertebrate model organisms (e.g., mouse, zebrafish) and embryological techniques
- Strong skills in molecular and cell biology methods (e.g., gene expression analysis, functional genetics, phenotypic characterization)
- Interest in congenital disorders, craniofacial biology, neural crest cells, and gene–environment interactions in development
