Candidates with clearances, quantitative skills, or domain expertise in national security or health policy move fastest. Networking through local professional groups and targeting mid-size government contractors gives you a practical edge in this market.

Are there remote research jobs in Reston?
Yes, though it depends on the type of research role. Analytical, policy, and data-focused positions are often remote-compatible, while laboratory, fieldwork, or classified-environment roles require on-site presence. About 14% of research openings tied to Reston are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the area's strong concentration of desk-based analytical and intelligence-adjacent work that can be performed off-site.
How can I get a research job in Reston with little or no experience?
