Resident Engineer Jobs in Seattle: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a resident engineer job in Seattle?
Focus your search on Seattle's construction, transit, and civil infrastructure sectors, where resident engineer demand is strongest. Sound Transit, the Port of Seattle, and the city's ongoing waterfront and light-rail expansion projects generate steady openings. Candidates with field inspection experience, familiarity with Washington State Department of Transportation project protocols, and proficiency in construction management software stand out most in the local market.
Which companies hire resident engineers in Seattle?
Employers hiring resident engineers in Seattle right now include Colliers Engineering & Design, Jacobs, and GFT, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Seattle's mix of large public agencies, regional engineering consultancies, and general contractors handling major infrastructure and commercial development projects makes it one of the more active markets for this role in the Pacific Northwest.
Are there remote resident engineer jobs in Seattle?
Yes, but only for a narrow slice of the work, since resident engineer roles are inherently site-based and require physical presence during construction or inspection phases. About 0% of resident engineer openings tied to Seattle are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, and those tend to cover document review, submittal management, and project reporting rather than field oversight.
How can I get a resident engineer job in Seattle with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Seattle is through construction inspector or field technician roles with public agencies such as the City of Seattle Department of Transportation or King County Metro, which regularly hire early-career candidates and promote internally. Engineering staffing firms serving Seattle's active infrastructure pipeline also place junior resident engineers on shorter-term project assignments, which builds the site-hours record that permanent roles require.
Which industries hire the most resident engineers in Seattle?
The sectors hiring the most resident engineers in Seattle are Consulting & Professional Services and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Seattle's sustained investment in light-rail expansion, waterfront redevelopment, and large-scale tech-campus construction keeps demand for on-site engineering oversight consistently high across those sectors.
