Risk Manager Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a risk manager job in Boston?
Focus your search on Boston's Financial District and Seaport, where financial services firms, insurance carriers, and large healthcare systems like Partners HealthCare and major asset managers concentrate most of their risk functions. Candidates with experience in credit, operational, or enterprise risk stand out here. A CFA, FRM, or PRM designation carries real weight with Boston's investment management and banking employers, and direct experience with regulatory frameworks common to federally chartered banks helps too.
Which companies hire risk managers in Boston?
Employers hiring risk managers in Boston right now include Deloitte, Amazon, and State Street, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's hiring mix skews toward large financial institutions, regional banks, life sciences companies, and specialty insurers, many of which maintain dedicated risk teams with ongoing needs.
Are there remote risk manager jobs in Boston?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role type. Analytical and model-focused positions tend to support remote or hybrid arrangements, while roles tied to physical operations, trading floors, or compliance monitoring typically require on-site presence. About 41% of risk manager openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. Enterprise risk and quantitative risk roles at Boston's asset managers and insurers are most likely to offer flexible arrangements.
How can I get a risk manager job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Boston is through a junior analyst or risk associate role at a regional bank, insurance company, or mid-size investment firm in the Financial District or Back Bay. Boston-area employers also hire from local graduate programs at Northeastern, Boston University, and Boston College, so co-op experience or internships with a Boston-based financial institution strengthens your candidacy significantly. Lateral moves from audit, compliance, or financial analysis roles at the same employer are also a common local pathway.
Which industries hire the most risk managers in Boston?
The sectors hiring the most risk managers in Boston are Consulting & Professional Services, Technology & Software, and Banking & Financial Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's concentration of asset managers, mutual fund companies, regional banks, and large hospital systems creates sustained, year-round demand for risk professionals with sector-specific expertise.
