Overview:
This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.
The Role:
The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist will focus on risk reduction, injury prevention and drive ownership of safety, health and environmental impacts enhancing the safety culture. The individual will develop, implement, and continuously improve programs within the EHS Management System framework in partnership with the broader Global EHS, engineering, and manufacturing ecosystems. They will also ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to internal, industry and consensus standards, as appropriate.
Position Responsibilities:
- Lead projects aimed at anticipating, recognizing, evaluating and controlling safety and environmental hazards.
- Ensure the EHS Management System elements are applied effectively throughout operations.
- Drive thorough investigations for all incidents and accidents, develop effective root cause analysis and countermeasures, and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
- Develop and guide management to improve their effectiveness as safety leaders.
- Effectively communicate company metrics to functional teams and leadership.
- Conduct site audits, inspections, evaluations, and reviews as necessary.
- Provide safety recommendations for engineering and design.
- Support deliberate improvement efforts to improve overall EHS program performance.
- Evaluate existing or emergent risk management control technologies and provide information, regulatory assessment, and interpretation and required reporting, and technical expertise to management and employees.
- Analyze and assess plant safety trend data to drive safety resource allocation and drive ergonomic initiatives to reduce injuries.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental science or related disciplines or equivalent subject matter knowledge skills and abilities acquired through work.
- 3+ years’ experience working in a position with responsibility for safety and environmental programs preferably in a manufacturing or industrial segment.
- Experience developing and implementing safety and environmental programs, policies, and training.
- Ability to be self-directed and complete work with minimal day-to-day supervision.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM, or other professional certification.
- Applied knowledge in health and safety disciplines including Hazard Communication, LOTO, Confined Space, Electrical Safety, Fall Protection, Incident Investigation, Ergonomics, Behavioral Based Safety, Machine Guarding and Lean Manufacturing.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Understanding of ISO 45001.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary Pay Range - Associate (Level 2): $56,850 - $87,150
