Safety Specialist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a safety specialist in New York?
Most safety specialist roles in New York require at least a bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, or a closely related field. New York does not issue a single state safety license, but employers widely expect OSHA 30-hour certification and, for career advancement, the Board of Certified Safety Professionals CSP credential. Public-sector roles fall under New York State's Public Employee Safety and Health bureau, which sets its own compliance standards hiring managers look for directly.
Which companies hire safety specialists in New York?
Employers hiring safety specialists in New York right now include Amazon, Wegmans Food Markets, and Bank of America, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's large construction, utility, and healthcare sectors keep demand steady, with anchor employers in the New York City metro driving a significant share of total openings statewide.
Which New York cities have the most safety specialist jobs?
New York, Rochester, and Buffalo have the most safety specialist openings in New York. New York City leads by volume because of its scale of active construction projects, major hospital systems, and large corporate headquarters, while Buffalo and Albany generate consistent demand through manufacturing facilities, state government agencies, and regional utilities operating across upstate New York.
Are there remote safety specialist jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Safety specialist work is largely site-based, covering inspections, walkthroughs, and hands-on training that cannot be done remotely. About 2% of safety specialist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to focus on compliance program development, policy writing, or EHS management roles that do not require daily on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a safety specialist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a safety coordinator or EHS assistant role at a large New York construction firm or hospital system, where structured mentorship and on-the-job OSHA training are common. Employers like New York-Presbyterian and major general contractors often bring in recent graduates at the coordinator level. Completing an OSHA 30-hour course and pursuing the Associate Safety Professional credential before applying gives candidates a clear edge over others without direct field experience.
Where can I find and apply to safety specialist jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to safety specialist jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to each one.
