The Director of Operations serves as a key administrative leader responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating the school district’s operational support services, including transportation, facilities maintenance, and custodial services. This role ensures a safe, efficient, clean, and well-maintained learning environment for all students, staff, and visitors.

Departmental Leadership & Supervision

• Supervise, evaluate, and direct the daily performance of approximately 15 transportation, maintenance, and custodial personnel.
• Plan, organize, and provide ongoing professional development, training, and safety instruction for department staff.
• Foster a collaborative, positive, and supportive team environment through effective communication and strong interpersonal skills.
• Manage scheduling, work assignments, coverage, and approval of payroll time for department staff.

Transportation Operations

• Oversee the safe, efficient, and timely operation of the district's 4 daily bus routes, field trips, staff vehicle use, and extracurricular transport.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and transportation regulations, including vehicle inspections and driver certifications.
• Operate a school bus on a regular or substitute route as needed.
• Complete required reports and maintain appropriate paperwork.

Facilities & Maintenance Operations

• Oversee preventive maintenance, routine repairs, and long-term capital improvement projects across all 5 facility sites.
• Supervise custodial staff to maintain clean, safe, and sanitary school buildings and grounds.
• Manage emergency maintenance responses, seasonal groundskeeping (e.g., snow removal, lawn care), and contractor compliance/inspections.
• Coordinate contracted services from outside companies.
• Collaborate with the Grounds Department on snow and ice removal.

Fiscal & Operational Management

• Procure supplies, equipment, and contracted services in accordance with district purchasing policies.
• Maintain complete and accurate department records, including driver files, equipment logs, maintenance histories, and building safety documentation.

Qualifications & Knowledge Requirements

• Experience: Experience with operations within facilities maintenance, custodial services, or pupil transportation systems. Leadership experience preferred.
• Licensure/Certifications:
• • Valid driver’s license at time of hire.
  • Hold or obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements within 90 days of employment.
• Skills & Abilities:
• • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to get along well with others, build relationships, and collaborate with staff, school leadership, and the community.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal safety regulations, building operations, basic maintenance trades, and fleet management.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Physical Demands:
• • Must be able to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing stairs/ladders, and operating vehicles or equipment.
• Work Environment:
• • Split time between professional office conditions, school buildings, mechanical/maintenance areas, bus garages, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, fumes, and varying weather extremes.
  • Requires participation in the drug/alcohol screening pool.

Salary based upon experience and education.
