With this mission as the focus, Campus Recreation’s program offerings include intramural sports, aquatics, sport clubs, fitness and wellness, expeditions, challenge course, open recreation, special events, climbing sports, adaptive sports, and well-being outreach.

The Assistant Director of Operations provides daily leadership and oversight for all indoor and outdoor Campus Recreation facilities including the Student Recreation Center, Rams Head Recreation Center, Woollen Gym, Hooker Fields, and the South Campus Recreation Complex. The position is responsible for supervising a full-time Facility Operations Coordinator and coordinating the development and implementation of policies, standard operating procedures, emergency action procedures, risk management plans, and safety practices. A primary operations responsibility is working with Housekeeping Services, Grounds Services, and Facilities Services to maintain and upkeep indoor and outdoor recreation facilities.

The position works closely and communicates with the Assistant Director of Member Services and Events to ensure event and reservation schedules and logistics occur without issue or conflicts. In addition to supervising one full-time Coordinator, this position hires, trains, and supervises approximately 40 student site managers for Campus Recreation indoor facilities.

The Assistant Director develops annual budgets for areas of responsibility and coordinates the purchase and inventory of shared equipment and staff supplies. The position collaborates with key stakeholders to purchase facility and fitness equipment, conduct preventative maintenance, repairs, replacement, and coordinate layout and installation of equipment. The Assistant Director also develops strategies to maximize use of different software systems to facilitate facility access, equipment checkout, locker rentals, and staff scheduling. Finally, this position has significant risk management responsibilities, including the development and implementation of emergency action plans for all Campus Recreation facilities.

The position reports to the Associate Director of Facilities and Operations and assumes responsibility for Campus Recreation facilities and operations in the absence of the Associate Director.

• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification is required upon hire or must be obtained within the first three months of employment.

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
