Keller is looking for an experienced Field Technician based out of our Chicago, Illinois location.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Field Technician supports on-site operations by assisting the Project Manager and Superintendent in executing geotechnical construction projects. This role is designed for individuals with practical field experience but without formal engineering education. Field Technicians contribute to project planning, data collection, quality control, and safety compliance, serving as a critical link between field operations and project management.
Responsibilities:
Project Support and Initial Planning
- Reviews and understands contract drawings, specifications, geotechnical design, and other site requirements.
- Under the direction of the Superintendent and Project Manager, coordinates and generates the required documentation such as field data reports, schedules, DAQ logs, layout and asbuilt logs, equipment and resource reports.
- Conduct basic quality assurance tasks such as pile load tests and field data logging.
- Monitor real-time production data and assist in compiling reports.
- Gathers, communicates, and maintains documentation for production targets and goals on a daily and weekly basis.
Risk Management
- Fully understands and complies with Keller risk management policies and procedures.
- Recognizes major risks and takes appropriate measures to reduce risk to the company.
Financial Management
- Collects time and quantities while maintaining daily and weekly logs/diaries.
- Interfaces with Superintendent on quantity updates as needed.
Change Management
- Works with Project Engineer and/or Project Manager to track and log any changes to the project.
- Assists in identifying changes that need to be escalated.
Safety and Quality Assurance
- Ensures compliance with all Keller and OSHA safety requirements.
- In the event of a safety incident, work in partnership with HSEQ to support employees and project management teams per Keller policy.
- Participate in daily safety briefings and hazard assessments.
- Logs all quality nonconformance issues and notify management for resolution.
- Exercise stop work authority for Safety and Quality issues.

- The responsibilities listed above are minimum expectations for the role. Additional tasks, duties, or responsibilities may be assigned at any time as needed to support branch and company objectives.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Background Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Experience)
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in geotechnical, construction, or related field work.
- Familiarity with drilling techniques and ground improvement methods.
- Strong time management, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Basic proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
- Willingness to travel frequently and work extended hours in field conditions.

- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Qualified Rigging Certification
- Fall Protection – Competent Person
- LOTO – Competent Person
- Attendance and completion of Keller Driller/Operator Schools
- Leadership Development and Coaching Training
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Salary Range: $20-$30 per hour DOE Actual salary will be based on a variety of factors including relevant internal and external experience, knowledge, skills, scope of job, geographical location or other factors permitted by law
