Job Description
Business Development Representative develops sales opportunities from a combination of industry research and outreach to existing and new customers as well as related influencers.
Primary Responsibilities
- Identify Early-Stage Projects: Use industry databases to identify construction projects in the "Pre-Design" or "Schematic Design" phases.
- Monitor Project Milestones: Track key dates, including bid deadlines, planning board approvals, and construction starts.
- Competitor Intelligence: Research and document which competitors are being specified or are actively bidding on the same projects.
- Technical Briefing: Provide the technical sales team with project-specific research (e.g., site constraints or specific building codes) to help them develop more relevant content.
- Event Coordination: Plan and execute business development events, such as trade shows, educational programs, and professional organization meetings.
Daily Activities
- Strategic Lead Sourcing: Operate sales tools to build a long-term pipeline of upcoming projects.
- Stakeholder Mapping: Identify and research the specific architects, developers, and general contractors involved in a tracked project.
- Relationship Nurturing: Initiate outreach to influencers (architects/engineers) during the design phase to get products specified before the bid phase begins.
- CRM Management: Maintain a "Project Tracker" within CRM to provide management with visibility into the total volume of potential business in the pipeline.
- Hand-off Coordination: Transition "tracked projects" to the Inside Sales team once the project moves into the active quoting and material estimate phase.
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree with major related to business or building construction preferred
- Sales experience, especially building materials
- Experience with cloud-based construction project tracking tools like Dodge or Reed
- Experience using Customer Relationship Management software
- Strong collaborative skills for working with technical sales teams and stakeholders
