Sales And Business Development Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales and business development in California?
Most sales and business development roles in California require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, though no state-issued license is required to work in the role. Candidates typically start in sales development or account executive roles, building a history of quota attainment and deal experience. Certifications such as Salesforce Administrator or HubSpot Sales Software credentials are common differentiators with California technology employers.
How much do sales and business developments make in California?
Sales and business developments in California earn a median of about $134,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,430 for the lowest 10% to over $300,580 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales and business developments in California?
Employers hiring sales and business developments in California right now include State Farm, Brown and Caldwell, and Adobe, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of enterprise technology and life sciences companies means a large share of these openings involve complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles rather than transactional or retail environments.
Which California cities have the most sales and business development jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Jose have the most sales and business development openings in California right now. San Francisco and the broader Bay Area dominate because of the dense cluster of SaaS, cloud, and fintech headquarters there, while Los Angeles draws openings in media technology, entertainment, and consumer goods, and San Diego supports a significant volume of biotech and defense-sector business development roles.
Are there remote sales and business development jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 21% of sales and business development openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the role involves calls, video demos, and digital outreach rather than on-site presence. Strategic partnership and enterprise SaaS roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while field sales and account management roles tied to physical territory typically remain in-person.
How can I get hired as a sales and business development in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a sales development representative role, where the primary responsibility is outbound prospecting rather than closing, and many California technology companies hire candidates directly from university programs. Large Bay Area and Los Angeles employers including Salesforce, Oracle, and Cisco run structured sales associate programs for new graduates. Building fluency in a CRM platform and completing a recognized sales methodology certification gives candidates a concrete edge during screening.
Where can I find and apply to sales and business development jobs in California?
You can find and apply to sales and business development jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across industries and seniority levels. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to each one.
