Sales Engineer Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a sales engineer job in Chicago?
Target the sectors driving Chicago hiring: industrial automation along the I-90 corridor, enterprise software in the Loop and River North, and medtech anchored near the Illinois Medical District. Candidates with hands-on technical backgrounds in manufacturing or SaaS get the most traction. Networking through local trade groups and tech meetups in Fulton Market gives a real edge in a city where referrals move fast.
Which companies hire sales engineers in Chicago?
Chicago sales engineer roles are posted by Fortinet, US HealthCare Careers, and Meter and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's mix of legacy industrial manufacturers, fast-growing SaaS firms, and regional healthcare technology companies means a wide range of employer sizes and technical environments are consistently hiring.
Are there remote sales engineer jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though availability depends on the role: pure software sales engineering skews remote-friendly, while positions tied to on-site demos or manufacturing installations typically require local presence. About 59% of sales engineer openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the highest remote concentration among SaaS and cloud infrastructure employers headquartered in the Loop and River North.
How can I get a sales engineer job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a sales development or inside sales role at a Chicago SaaS or industrial tech company, where you can build technical product knowledge before moving into a pre-sales function. Chicago's deep manufacturing base also hires junior technical sales support roles that serve as a direct pipeline. A degree in engineering or computer science, even without sales experience, opens doors at mid-size B2B software firms clustered in River North and the West Loop.
