School Social Worker Jobs in Michigan

Primary Function:

The Certified School Social Worker is responsible for supporting the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of students - particularly those in need of tiered interventions and special education services. Working within a school setting, this role involves counseling, educational planning, family engagement, and collaboration with staff and community resources to ensure student success.

Qualifications:

• Masters of Social Work with Michigan School Social Worker License.
• Prior job experience, preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Executive Director may find acceptable.

Reports To: Student Services Coordinator

Term:

Contract will be for 195 days.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide services to Title I students.
• Participate in educational planning, analyzing behavior and developing interventions.
• Administer Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for students in the education setting.
• Provide individual counseling or interventions in the general education setting.
• Implement best practice instructional and intervention strategies for social and emotional delays.
• Remain current with professional development opportunities and trends.
• Educate students, staff, and families about best practice approaches to meeting individual student social and emotional needs.
• Assist in state reporting.
• Attend critical school meetings such as Child Study Team meetings, IEP meetings, 504 meetings and any other meetings related to successfully supporting students with social and emotional needs.
• Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.
• Implement Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS).
• Work with teammates, families and agencies to assist with truancy and attendance issues.
• Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested.
• Promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
• Exhibit skill in working with at-risk students including, but not limited to, children living in impoverished homes, students who have been or are at risk of being neglected and abused, students and families facing homelessness, or students who have emotional, behavioral, or mental delays.
• Work as a liaison for students and their families to access community resources, when needed.
• Develop and write IEPs for students.
• Complete Medicaid billing for services provided.
• Participate in re evaluations as part of the MET team
• Complete and evaluate progress monitoring for caseload students.
• Effectively work with the Student Service team to provide team approach services.
• Remain current with professional development opportunities and trends.
