Scientist Jobs in Los Angeles: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a scientist job in Los Angeles?
Target the sectors that drive Los Angeles hiring: biotech and pharma along the Westside, aerospace and defense in the South Bay cities like El Segundo and Torrance, and environmental consulting firms spread across the metro. Tailoring your application to a specific discipline, whether molecular biology, materials science, or environmental chemistry, gives you a clearer edge over generalist candidates in this competitive, specialty-heavy market.
Which companies hire scientists in Los Angeles?
Los Angeles scientist roles are posted by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, University of California Los Angeles, and University of Southern California and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The local employer mix runs from large aerospace contractors and pharmaceutical companies to smaller biotech startups clustered near UCLA and the broader Westside research corridor.
Are there remote scientist jobs in Los Angeles?
Yes, though only for roles that are primarily analytical or computational rather than lab-based. About 57% of scientist openings tied to Los Angeles are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how few bench and fieldwork positions can move off-site. Data science, regulatory affairs, and scientific writing roles within Los Angeles are the most likely to offer flexible or fully remote arrangements.
How can I get a scientist job in Los Angeles with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Los Angeles is a research assistant or lab technician role at one of the city's university-affiliated research centers, such as those connected to UCLA, USC, or Cedars-Sinai. Environmental consulting firms across the metro also hire junior scientists for field and sampling work. Hands-on project experience, even from coursework or volunteer research, consistently separates entry-level candidates in this market.
Which industries hire the most scientists in Los Angeles?
Most scientist openings in Los Angeles sit in Healthcare & Medical Services, Technology & Software, and Education, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The region's deep aerospace heritage, growing life sciences investment on the Westside, and strict state environmental regulations all sustain consistent demand for scientists with specialized technical backgrounds.
